Learning Disability Week 2024

Learning Disability Week takes place on the third week of June every year. The focus this week is to make sure the world hears what life is like if you have a learning disability. The theme this year is ‘Do You See Me?’.  ‘Do You See Me?’ is about challenging the barriers that people with learning disabilities face. 

 

Statistics

  • 86% of people with a learning disability are unemployed. 
  • 26.7% of people with a learning disability are employed.
  • 1 in 3 people with a learning disability spend less than an hour outside on a standard Saturday. 
  • Over half of disabled people reported feeling lonely and this increased to 77% for those aged 18-35- Sense 2017. 
  • In England a higher proportion of men with a learning disability known to their local authority (6.2%) are in paid employment. This compares to women with a learning disability known to their local authority (4.8%)- NHS Digital 2020.
